There is nothing more important than taking care of your health while you are in college. Of course, you want to keep your diet and exercise regimen in mind, but there are a few other things that you will want to focus on as well to stay healthy. If you don’t take care of yourself, then things could start to unravel pretty quickly. Here are 5 health and wellness tips for college students.

  1. Stay Active

Whether you go to Northeastern University or Pepperdine University, when you are in college there is a lot of time spent sitting down. Sitting for lecture, sitting to study, sitting to read, and sitting to write your papers. In between all of that sitting, you want to make sure that you can find a way to get some exercise. If you don’t get up and move around then you will start to feel extremely lethargic and it will become harder and harder to keep your weight down.

In addition to getting plenty of exercise, you want to be sure that you are maintaining a healthy diet. It’s easy to get busy and extremely stressed out when you’re in college, and that’s when most people eat heavy comfort foods, start going for fast food raiding the vending machines for candy. Unfortunately, this is only going to make you feel more sluggish and less productive. So make sure you are eating balanced meals so that you can stay energized and alert at all times.

  1. Get Plenty of Sleep

It’s so common for most college students to stay up late, either studying or partying, and get up early every morning for classes. You may be able to do this and still get a good amount of your work done, but it will take a toll on your brain and your body over time. Not getting enough sleep can have very serious consequences to your health, and it will soon be evident in your work. That’s why you always want to get at least 7 hours of sleep per night.

  1. Avoid Drama

Everyone talks about avoiding drama simply because it’s never a very pleasant thing to deal with.  However, when you’re in college, you simply don’t have time for it. You have so many more important things to worry about than a bad date or friendship drama. If you let yourself get distracted by petty drama, you could find yourself compromising a lot of your progress and opportunities.

  1. Limit Your Partying

We all know that college is the time when most people have a ton of fun and sow their wild oats, however, you want to keep yourself in check if you can. There will surely be plenty of parties over the weekends, but you want to be sure to reserve your weekdays for school. If you start to develop a dependency to alcohol or any other type of drug, it could really derail your entire college career.
