Try Making a Finger Blanket with Loop Yarn
If you’re in the mood to get crafty and create something for your home or as a gift for someone special, it’s incredibly easy to make a stunning finger blanket using loop yarn.
What Is Loop Yarn?
Loop yarn is essentially a series of loops stitched onto a single piece of yarn, which allows you to pull loops through one another with your fingers to knit them together.
While you can use loop yarn even if you don’t know how to knit, it’s also possible to create chunky blankets using traditional knitting techniques. If you want your knitted blanket to have the same level of cosiness as a blanket made from loop yarn, you’ll need to choose chunky yarn, and you can visit The Wool Couture Company to browse a selection of different colours.
Did you know you can also arm knit with chunky yarns? In fact, in 2024, TikTok star Dan Soar set the world record for arm knitting by creating 19 blankets in just 24 hours!
Practising the Stocking Stitch
When using loop yarn, we recommend you start by counting out the number of loops you want to run across the length of your project. Then curve the length of yarn around and start pulling loops from the tail through each of the loops running along the bottom. When you reach your starting point, curve the yarn around again and work back along the length in the opposite direction continuing to pull loops through the loops below.
Integrating Different Colours
When using loop yarn, you can also create a patchwork design by incorporating a few different-coloured panels. There are several ways to approach this, including stitching different panels together or looping different colours in as you build length on your project.
Creating a Professional Finish
When the time comes to weave the tails of yarn into the blanket to finish it off securely, you may find it easier to use a crochet hook. Although this isn’t necessary, it will likely be a bit more efficient than simply using your fingers.
